When it comes to moving in together and splitting the rent, yes. Yes, you save the most when you split the rent in places that cost the most. Sharing a home can be stressful — many couples are vocal about needing to sleep in separate bedrooms (also good for post-argument cool-downs). Luckily, New York couples in two-bedrooms could still save $19,000 a year on a median-priced unit when splitting the rent. This week’s chart shows the 25 cities (among the 50 studied) where savings were greatest when sharing a median-priced one-bedroom compared to renting it alone.

CNN —Tardigrades, also known as water bears, commonly survive in some of Earth’s most challenging environments. Under stress in extreme cold or other harsh environmental conditions, tardigrades’ bodies produce unstable free radicals of oxygen and an unpaired electron, aka a reactive oxygen species that can wreak havoc on the body’s proteins and DNA if they overaccumulate. The survival mechanism kicks off when cysteines, one of the amino acids that forms proteins in the body, come into contact with these oxygen free radicals and becomes oxidized, the researchers found. The free radicals become, so to speak, the hammer used to smash the glass on a fire alarm. “We came up with this idea (that) maybe it’s those species that are actually signaling to the tardigrades to enter their tun state,” she said.

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP) — Santa Claus’ sleigh took on new responsibilities in rural Alaska this week when delivering gifts to an Alaska Native village. Santa’s ride, an Alaska Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, was shuttling Santa, Mrs. Claus, volunteer elves and gifts in shifts Wednesday to provide the children of Tuluksak some Christmas cheer. The flights originated about 35 miles (56 kilometers) southwest, from the hub community of Bethel, the guard said in a release. The Alaska National Guard for decades has delivered gifts, supplies and sometimes Christmas itself to tiny rural communities dotting the nation’s largest and largely roadless state. CNN —An Alaska man was arrested on Monday after allegedly sending a threatening message to a US senator, writing that he planned to hunt down and physically harm the senator, according to court documents. Arther Charles Graham is charged with making interstate threats to kidnap and injure a current US senator, according to a statement from the Department of Justice. Court documents do not identify the senator, only referring to “she” and “her.” Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski is the only current female Alaska senator. Graham wrote that he was facing eviction and said that he had “nowhere else to live,” according to court documents.
